Using AI to help with grants shouldn't be about coaxing a chatbot to do what you want. By focusing relentlessly on grants, Grantable has created the world's best AI tool for grant professionals. Here's how it works:

🆕 Application View

Highlight to reveal toolbar

Once you've setup your application with source materials, accessing your AI assistant begins with highlighting a selection of text you wish to work with.

This will reveal your AI toolbar as a popup menu.

Answer questions (Quick mode)

The fastest way to get started is simply to click Answer question option in the toolbar. This will engage your AI assistant to do its best to utilize relevant selections from the source materials associated with this application to draft a response to the highlighted text.

Refining the AI output

After reading the AI output, you can continue to prompt the AI assistant to make modifications to the text.

Each version is saved and you can toggle through them to select the most suitable one.

Managing source material

By default, all of the source documents associated with this application will be selected, which is indicated by the blue colored pill with the checkmark icon.

To remove a source from usage, simply click the source to toggle it off. It will change from blue to white and the checkmark icon will be replaced by a document icon.

To add a source, click on an unselected document. It will change from white to blue and the document icon will be replaced by a checkmark icon.

Adding source material

To add additional source documents to the application click the Manage Sources option.

This will open a view for you to search and add other source documents already in your account, or to upload additional documents from your computer.

Inserting AI outputs in the application

Once you have produced an output you wish to use in your application, click the option Insert below to inject the text immediately after the highlighted text you are working on.

Caution: You must either use the Insert below or Replace selection options to ensure your AI output is added to the application and saved. AI outputs that remain in the AI window and are not added to the page may result in lost AI outputs.

Replace text with AI outputs

You can also use your AI assistant to modify text in your application.

Highlight text you wish to work on and click the AI option with the sparkle icon.

Instruct your AI assistant based upon how you would like it to modify the text and press return or enter, or click the green up arrow button to initiate.

Once you have produced a new version of the highlighted text that you wish to use, click the Replace selection option at the bottom of the AI window to substitute the old text with the new version.

Exit the AI window

You can exit the AI workspace at anytime by pressing the escape key or clicking the Discard option at the bottom of the workspace.

Caution: Content is not stored in the AI workspace and must be inserted into your application in order to be saved.

Legacy View

This version of Grantable is scheduled to be deprecated. Please begin to migrate your work to the latest version of our workspace.

Setup your content palette

A content palette is a feature unique to Grantable that allows you to assemble and save selections of source material for the AI assistant to reference when drafting content and is critical for ensuring AI outputs are as accurate and authentic as possible.

Read this article to learn how to create content palettes before proceeding.

Accessing your AI assistant

You can access your AI assistant in the editor view of any file in your account using any of the following methods:

Keyboard shortcuts

Control + J (PC)

Command + J (Mac)

Toolbar

Using the sparkle icon in the toolbar at the top of the page.

Highlight text

Highlight text to reveal the floating bubble menu with the AI sparkle icon.

Prompting

Once open, you may prompt your AI to perform a task. The system is highly flexible and will do its best to fulfill the instructions it is given.

Prompting best practices

  • Be specific

  • Provide descriptive examples if helpful

  • Iterate and experiment

Prompt quality examples

Low: Answer this

Med: Answer this in 100 words

High: Answer this in a conversational tone in 100 words or fewer and emphasize quantitative data that supports the project

Tip: Prompting AI is a skill that develops over time and with practice.

Re-prompting

Grantable enables you to continue instructing the AI assistant to refine outputs, and allows you to review all the versions you've created to select the best one.

Tell the AI how you would like to refine the initial output.

Select the version you wish to proceed with.

Edit, insert, and replace

Editable window

You are able to edit text generated by the AI within the output window prior to injecting it into the document.

Insert below

Selecting the option Insert below will inject the entirety of the AI generated text after your cursor or the highlighted text you are acting upon.

For example, if you have highlighted a question and used AI to help draft a response, selecting Insert below would place the generated answer in the correct place in the document immediately following the question text.

Replace text

Selecting the option Replace selection will insert the AI generated text in place of the highlighted text.

For example, if you have selected a section of text to revise and the AI has produced a satisfactory replacement, selecting Replace selection will overwrite the old version with the new one.

Switching palettes

Your AI assistant will always reference the selected or active palette for source material.

Click on the different palette tabs at the bottom of the screen to select which palette is actively referenced by the AI assistant.
